One of the first things Hindus try to teach their children are shlokas or sthotras. These are Sanskrit verses composed by our great rishis long, long ago. These shlokas are usually in praise of the virtues and beauty of God. Some shlokas also lay down the moral path to be followed by mankind. It is believed that chanting of certain Sanskrit shlokas gives the person power, wealth, good health, victory over enemies and protection from all evils.

Below are some Ganesha shlokas that can be chanted every day, in the morning or before starting any important work. It is believed that Lord Ganesha removes all obstacles and is responsible for the successful completion of any venture. While chanting these holy mantras it is very important to calm oneself. It helps if one chants the word "OM" over and over again. With mind free from all evil thoughts one can achieve some sort of mental peace by chanting these mantras.
